Gift
from Phillip Hoose Launches Birders' Exchange
Cuba Initiative:
The American Birding Association's
Birders' Exchange program is pleased to
announce the establishment of, "The
Birders' Exchange Cuba Initiative."
The project has been initiated through a
major gift to American Birding Association
by author and conservationist Phillip Hoose.
All financial contributions to this initiative
will be used to supply much-needed equipment,
books, and other education and field tools
for bird education, conservation and research
efforts throughout Cuba. There will be a

First Supplies Delivered by Birders’
Exchange Cuba Initiative:
In Spring 2003 I traveled
to Cuba to conduct research for a book I
am writing about the Ivory-billed woodpecker
(The Race to Save the Lord God Bird, to
be published next by Farrar, Straus and
Giroux). While there, I carried donations
from Birder’s Exchange (BE)’s
Cuba Initiative to several recipients working
in the fields of bird conservation and education.
